As part of our celebration of National Walking Month, we are highlighting one of the most popular and oldest walks in Britain. Many of us are walking as part of our daily exercise or our journeys to work, and we should not forget the many fabulous walks available to us throughout our shores.
The Dales Way runs for around 80 miles from Ilkley in West Yorkshire to Bowness-on-Windermere in Cumbria, following mostly riverside paths and passing through the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the gentle foothills of southern Lakeland to the shore of England's grandest lake.
This particular route that we're using runs 75 miles from Ilkey to Windermere at the finish. For those of you willing to take up the challenge, we will map your virtual walk of The Dales Way during May - how far can you get?
As an added bonus you'll earn BetterTickets into our Walk the Dales Grand Prize Draw for each section you complete. We'll be giving away 10 lots of 5,000 BetterPoints on 1st June.
Dales Way 1 - Ilkley to Burnsall - 12 BetterTickets
Dales Way 2 - Burnsall to Kettlewell - 10 BetterTickets
Dales Way 3 – Kettlewell to Gearstones - 15 BetterTickets
Dales Way 4 – Gearstones to Sedbergh - 14 BetterTickets
Dales Way 5 – Sedburgh to Burneside - 13 BetterTickets
Dales Way 6 – Burneside to Windermere - 10 BetterTickets
Hopefully you will be encouraged to consider this or other beautiful walks throughout the UK, and your daily exercise will have prepared you for whatever challenges they present.
This year we have been inspired yet again by The Rambling Man website which is dedicated to telling the tales of one Andrew Bowden as he walks some of those paths. Many thanks Andrew!
